Sariska Tiger Reserve

Sariska National Park or popularly called as Sariska Tiger Reserve is most visited wildlife sanctuary in India situated in the Alwar districts of Rajasthan. Its stretches sprawl over an area of 881 square kilometer comprising of dry deciduous forests, scrub-thorn, grasslands and rocky hills. Sariska is located at a distance of 106 kilometer from Hindaun, 107 kilometers from Jaipur and 200 kilometers from national capital Delhi. It is a part of the Aravalli range which is very rich in mineral resources such as cooper. Sariska is popular since the times of Mahabharta war as it is believed that the Padavas used the dense forest of Sariska to hide themselves from Kauravas during their exile. As per the Hindu mythology, Pandupol- a place in Sariska where Bhima met Hanuman Ji.

Sariska is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including:

  • Tigers: Part of Project Tiger, the park has a growing tiger population.
  • Other Mammals: Leopards, hyenas, nilgai, sambhar deer, and wild boars.
  • Birds: Peacocks, kingfishers, and various migratory birds.
  • Reptiles: Monitor lizards and snakes.

The lush vegetation includes dhok trees, kadaya, and ber shrubs, supporting the park’s thriving ecosystem.

Zones in Sariska

Sariska National Park is divided into 03 zones for safari purpose. This is done to avoid pressure of vehicles inside the park.

There are 02 gates for Sariska. First is Sariska Alwar Gate & second is Tehla gate. Both these gates are quite far. Sariska Alwar gate is recommended for safaris.

Sariska National Park Safari Timings

In a day, two gypsy safaris are conducted in Sariska by the forest department: one in the morning and another in the afternoon. These safaris are permitted from sunrise to sunset. The exact timings, however, vary slightly depending on the season as shown below:
